The Terpene Chase: Our Guide to Concentrates & Brand Spotlight on Olio

While flower will always be a classic, concentrates (often collectively referred to as "wax") offer a cleaner, more potent, and incredibly flavor-forward way to experience the plant. But with so many textures and extraction methods out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Welcome to the world of cannabis concentrates - let’s break down the basics of dabbing, demystify the textures, and shine a well-deserved spotlight on the titan in our fridge: Olio.

1. Concentrates 101: The Two Main Styles

At their core, concentrates are made by separating the plant’s therapeutic trichomes (the shiny crystals on the bud containing THC and terpenes) from the raw plant material. This leaves behind a highly potent product, usually testing between 60% and 90%+ THC.

Generally, concentrates fall into two main categories based on how they are made:

  • Solvent-Based (Hydrocarbon extracts): These use safe, laboratory-grade solvents like butane or propane to strip the cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant, which are then completely purged away. This method is incredible for creating highly potent, hyper-flavorful products like Live Resin.

  • Solventless (Ice Water Hash & Rosin): The artisanal gold standard. No chemicals are ever used. Instead, processors use ice, water, heat, and physical pressure to naturally press the resin out of the plant. This yields Live Rosin—the purest, most true-to-the-living-plant extract possible.

What does "Live" mean? If you see the word "Live" before Resin or Rosin, it means the cannabis plant was flash-frozen immediately at harvest, preserving the delicate, volatile terpenes that are usually lost during the traditional drying and curing process. It means maximum flavor.

2. A Guide to Textures (Find Your Vibe)

The names of concentrates usually tell you exactly what the texture looks like. Here is a quick cheat sheet for what's in a jar:

  • Badder / Budder: Whipped to a creamy, frosting-like consistency. It is incredibly easy to manipulate with a dab tool, making it a crowd favorite for both beginners and veterans.

  • Sugar / Sauce: A wet, grainy texture where tiny THC crystals sit in a pool of liquid, aromatic terpenes. It smells amazing and delivers a heavy flavor punch.

  • Diamonds: The heavy hitters. Pure crystalline THCA blocks swimming in a light terpene "sauce." High potency, clean high.

  • Cold-Cure Rosin: A solventless masterpiece with a smooth, doughy texture. It’s kept at specific cool temperatures to lock in the aroma and prevent the terps from degrading.

Onset, Duration, and Dosing

  • Activation Time: Near-instantaneous (1 to 3 minutes). Because you are vaporizing a clean extract, it hits the bloodstream immediately.

  • Duration: 1 to 3 hours. While the peak is intense, the comedown is often much cleaner than smoking flower, with less residual grogginess.

  • The Golden Rule: Start with the size of a grain of rice. Seriously. A tiny bit goes a very long way.

3. Brand Spotlight: Olio Concentrates

If you want to experience what happens when science meets pure cannabis artistry, you look for Olio in our inventory.

Olio has earned a legendary, cult-like following among concentrate connoisseurs, and for good reason: they are completely obsessed with the terpene profiles of their plants. They don't just extract cannabis; they curate an olfactory experience.

Why We Love Olio

Olio treats extraction like fine winemaking. They run an incredibly clean operation focused heavily on exotic genetics, small-batch processing, and maintaining the absolute integrity of the plant.

When you pop the lid on a jar of Olio, the aroma fills the room immediately. They are famous for capturing those ultra-specific, loud flavor notes—whether it’s a sharp, funky GMO, a bright, artificial-candy Zkittlez cross, or a gassy, deep OG.

What to Look For on Our Shelves:

Olio Premium Live Rosin (90u / First Press): This is the cream of the crop. "90u" refers to the specific micron screen size used to catch only the absolute perfect, most mature trichome heads. It melts entirely cleanly on your banger and tastes like a living garden.

Pro-Tip for the Perfect Dab

To truly appreciate a premium extract like Olio, drop your temperatures. Taking a dab that is too hot will scorch the product, ruin the flavor, and hurt your throat.

Aim for a low-temp dab between 500°F and 550°F (or use an e-rig/thermometer). You’ll get smooth, milky clouds that taste exactly like the plant smelled in the jar.
